Birthright
When Mary Hughes is attacked she never expects to wake up finding her entire reality has
changed. Mari is a witch, destined to fight for her title with a twin she has never met with powers
she has never known. Her name is actually Keena Priestess of the Wild. If all that’s not enough
her cat is a shifter and he’s been there for even the most intimate portions of her life. To top
that off the vampire she has chosen as la graine, her first consort, is going to love her for the
rest of his life, which will be considerably longer than hers. With all these changes will Keena be
able to prepare for the most important day of her life? Or will the rapid changes prove too much
for Keena to handle?
Marked by the deeper insight that first person allows Birthright is a spectacular exploration of
a powerful woman willing to go after what she wants. Keena is strong even as a human but her
determination to do the right thing only amplifies when she discovers her heritage. While Keena
is given some strong men to love due to the first person point of view you really don’t get the in-
depth insight into the men except to know how much they adore Keena. The sensual aspects of
Birthright can be literally explosive, heat pulsing from the pages as the well written prose
ensnares you. With such colorful world building and a first person perspective that is actually
readable unlike so many Birthright is worthy of a warm night in. I will be eagerly looking
forward to Ms. Freeman’s next book.
