Heart Change:
Celta’s HeartMates Bk. 8
Signet D’Marigold is lonely beyond bearing. With great, but unspecified flair she is used to
being left behind by those she loves. When the great prophet Vinnie T’Vine tells Signet that her
flair is as a catalyst for change the relief is nearly overwhelming, suddenly so much in her life
makes sense. Vinnie is desperate for Signet’s help, his young HeartMate, Avellana, is in
danger. With Avellana approaching her first passage it is hoped that having her stay with
Signet will change her enough to ensure she lives through the dangerously volatile passage
suffered by those with great flair. When Signet realizes she has strong emotions for the
bodyguard Cratag she begins to wonder if perhaps her dreams of a HeartMate may not be in
vein.
Cratag Maytree is crushed when his liege lord T’Hawthorn casually sells his services outside the
family. Being at D’Marigold residence as bodyguard to young Avellana is no hardship however,
Cratag has always been attracted to D’Marigold even if she is far out of his reach. But when
attraction turns to lust and lust to love will Cratag allow the difference in their classes to keep
them apart? Or will he follow his heart into Signets arms? Worse yet will his emotional turmoil
cause him to fail Avellana when she needs his protection the most?
Set against the glorious landscape of Druida City Heart Change is full of the emotional
intensity and edge of tension I have come to expect from Ms. Owens. Signet seems emotionally
fragile but as you explore her character and get to know her you realize the fragility hides a
backbone of steel and a strong giving woman with an optimistic core that just wont quit. Her
strong maternal instincts towards children that are under her care makes you long to see her
with children of her own. Signet’s patience in dealing with the first families is extraordinary,
several times she went with the flow when I would have clipped the arrogant first family members
upside the head for their assumptions.
Cratag is strong in body but not in flair making him feel inferior to many of the inhabitants of
Druida City. From our vantage point it is easy to see that his rock solid, if slight, flair is a perfect
balance for Signet but Cratag being male just doesn’t see it that way. His stubborn denial of his
own self worth will have you wanting to either coddle him or slap some sense into him,
personally I alternated between the two. The sensuality between Signet and Cratag is powerful
and undeniable even If they do have a few problems getting some time alone with all the kids
and fams wandering around the residence.
With a hint of suspense and comedy supplied, as usual, by a variety of fams Heart Change will
instantly grab your attention. With visits with many of the previous stars of the Celta’s
HeartMate series warming your heart as you see the absolute peace and contentment these
HeartMates share. The continuity is just another way that Ms. Owens ensures Heart Change
is impossible to put down. With a captivating cast of secondary characters and plenty of
HeartMates still to find each other I can only hope that there are many more books planned in
this unforgettable series.
