Hounding the Pavement:
Dog Walker Mystery Bk. 1
All Ellie Engleman wants is to put her life back together after a particularly nasty divorce.
Finding out she is able to talk to dogs makes her choice of dog walker to the swanky
Manhattanites an almost guaranteed success, especially with the help of her wise cracking side
dog Rudy. Right until Ellie literally trips over the body of one of her clients and finds his prize
winning dog missing. With the police barely registering the theft of Buddy and Ellie a prime
suspect in the murder will Ellies' unique abilities keep her safe or will she end up the latest victim
of the killer?
Detective Sam Ryder is not a dog lover. So when his latest case brings him into contact with a
flaky dog walker who just can’t seem to stay out of his way he is not impressed. Except Ellie is
attractive and obviously smart and Sam finds himself drawn to her. Sam is sure that his job will
prevent any kind of relationship but with Ellie he may be willing to try. That is if he can solve this
murder before Ellie manages to get herself killed.
A laugh a minute combined with a mystery that keeps you guessing until the last, Hounding
the Pavement is a brilliant start for the Dog Walker Mystery series. Ellie is a woman just
coming into her own. Watching as she discovers her strengths and struggles to become her
own woman makes her very easy to relate to. Sam is very nearly an anti hero, he most defiantly
have you wanting to smack him upside the head more than once. Although I will say it’s great to
have a hero with more unresolved issues than the heroine for a change.
Many of Sam and Ellies' interactions are spiced with romantic tension keeping you on the edge
of your seat as you await the inevitable fall into romance. As the first book in a continuous
series I highly recommend that you give Hounding the Pavement a read so you, like me, can
be eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Dog Walker Mystery series.
Judi McCoy is donating the proceeds from this book to Best Friends Animal Society in an act of
generosity and CBS has optioned the series so I see an exciting future for Ellie and Rudy and
plenty more Dog Walker Mystery's to come.
