Redeeming Daisy:
Hearts Crossing Bk. 2
Daisy Densmore has made a lot of mistakes in her life: dumping Kenn Martin to marry
Tony O’Neal, a failed marriage, and then to cap it all off, she makes a play to get Kenn
back after drinking and makes a fool of herself at the local hoedown. No wonder her
parents are ashamed and her grandmother isn’t speaking to her!

Pike Martin, Kenn’s brother, and the local veterinarian, is outraged by Daisy. She broke
Kenn’s heart and questioned his diagnosis of her dog. But…she sure did feel nice when
he had to rescue her at the hoedown. Best not to think about that…

Redeeming Daisy is the second book in the Hearts Crossing series by Tanya Hanson,
but both are novellas rather than full novels. I liked this one more than the original – the
characters are more fully drawn and I could really empathize with Daisy once she quit
feeling so sorry for herself. Daisy comes off as spoiled at the beginning, much of it
because it seems she dumped Pike’s brother Kenn for not giving her the attention she
craved and making her more vulnerable to Tony’s overtures. She hurts her family by her
behavior and turns her back on God, especially when her marriage and life fall apart and
she has to return to live with her parents. She lashes out, particularly at Pike, but she
starts to see what she’s doing and works to make amends with everyone she’s hurt.

Pike was the more sympathetic character at first, since he’s the local vet and a
dependable, Christian guy. He shows some cracks in his poise, however, when Daisy
questions his diagnosis of her beloved dog, and as they run into each other throughout
the story. They snipe at each other constantly. He isn’t willing to see how much Daisy
has changed until his mother and sister stand up for her, and his eyes are finally opened
in bible study.

I liked the story but it really could benefit from a fuller format. The romance and ending
felt rushed.
