Sanctuary
Sanctuary, Michigan is a town like no other. Its people are happy and private. So when a
serial rapist and murderer starts preying on young hitchhiking girls in the area, Police
Chief Dane Alistair takes action. Chloe Sinclair is a young girl searching for answers.
She hitchhiked into the vicinity of Sanctuary and took a ride from the wrong person.
When she finds herself being attacked and then raped, she can only scream no and
pray for someone to help her. Will Dane be able to help Chloe? Will they be able to
survive what happens next?
Sanctuary – Chloe Sinclair finds both literal and emotional sanctuary in this small
northern Michigan town. She’s had a tough life, and has been a victim for years—her
father died when she was young, and her stepfather abused her and murdered her
mother. She’s spent the time since wandering from place to place, slowly heading
toward northern Michigan where she was born. When she’s picked up by the serial
rapist/murderer, it looks as though Chloe’s sad life will end until Dane and his deputies
step in and rescue her.
Dane is a great hero. He’s sexy, caring, and alpha. It’s easy to see why Chloe could
trust him and fall so hard. I found only a couple of missteps with his character. He
manages to get captured a couple of times, which doesn’t fit in with his profession or his
alpha status, but it may be that the author wanted some device to show Chloe’s growth
from victim to heroine. I’m not fond of helpless heroines, although Chloe is sweet, so it
was good to see Chloe get some backbone in her character—and not only because of
Dane.
The story and romance were satisfying, although I found the antagonist to be over the
top. The author tried to explain in several ways why she loved and defended her
husband so staunchly, but Ashley Krantz never rang true as a character for me.
