Shadow Hunter
Ulrik the Fair is a were-cat. Most of his life he's been a Shadow Hunter, enforcing the
rules of the paranormal society, keeping their existence from becoming known amongst
humans. He's retired now, but Ulrik was a most determined hunter. Ulrik is summoned
by the council when a wolf brings a challenge against him. It seems that Ulrik took the
wolf's woman to bed, and to a wolf thats an insult worth a challenge to the death. Ulrik
has no choice, he must meet the wolf in New Orleans on Halloween and they will have
this out. Of course Ulrik doesn't trust wolves, they refuse to be ruled by the governing
body.
As Ulrik waits with his mate who is watching his back he enters a local bar, a hangout
for paranormals, and is taken at first sight and smell by the lovely Charlene. Dressed in
a very sexy kitty outfit, long knee hi boots, leather corset and cute playful ears and tail.
Charlene is all human, but when Ulrik saves her being manhandled he decides she is
going to be his. Charlene is taken by his graceful movements, his charming banter and
his good looks and decides tonight she won't play it safe. She'll give Ulrik a chance to
show her his moves on the dance floor and in her bed. The problem is that the Wolf who
placed the challenge has seen his interest in Charlene and is now determined to take
her away from Ulrik, to destroy Ulrik and everything he holds dear. He has ulterior
motives that will soon become known, and no one will be safe.
Shadow Hunter was previously published in the Things That Go Bump in the Night IV
Anthology by Ellora's Cave Publications. It is also a book in a series by J.C. Wilder, but
can be read as a stand alone. From the first page my mind took me to the place and
the night where Ulrik met the woman of his dreams, Charlene. I felt like I was watching
everything unfold as I was reading the book. I have read many books in the J.C. Wilder
series and each one captivates me. I could just imagine the way that Ulrik and Charlene
were together as the pages turned and I discovered the intensity of desire and romance
that Ulrik and Charlene had together.
The Wolf doesn't fight fair and as a result Charlene is drawn into this fight. Not only are
the love scenes fantastic, but Charlene's ability to defend both herself and Ulrik is
amazing. Adrenaline was really pumping as I read this story, whether it was the wolf's
challenge or Ulrik and Charlene's amazing and imaginative love making, I was glued to
this book. I can't wait to read more stories by J.C. Wilder in this series, I may even
reread those I've already read because they are just that good. You won't want to miss
the action packed book that will make you wish you could take Charlene's place with
Ulrik.
